WSM Costa Rica :: Today was a Good Day

We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. Romans 6:4

There are those moments in life that you know you will be marked in your brain for years to come. Today was one of those days. Saturday is a day of rest and a bit of sightseeing for the team. With one week of hard work down, and one more to go, it is good to pace the team and allow them to recharge their batteries. All work and no play makes WSM a dull missions team. Students International takes us to the coast for a day of exploring and playing in the warmest ocean I have ever swam in. We body surfed for hours, explored out to islands and peninsulas, and paid 500 Colonies for a cold shower to rinse off. In addition to that, we saw crocodiles in the river (from a very safe distance), and went to a large mall to eat dinner on the way home. All in all I would call that a pretty good day.

A few weeks ago about a third of the team approached me and said that God had been tugging on their heart to get baptized at the June baptism but also saw the opportunity to do it on this mission trip, a place they feel called to in the years to come. We got permission from their families, made sure their hearts were in the right place, and then promised to capture the event to take back to the states. So, the first thing we did when we got off the bus was to gather at the waterline and have ourselves a little worship service! Then each of the students took a chance to give a short testimony of what God has done in their lives and what baptism means to them. It was an amazing celebration. What an honor to mark the moments of this trip and what God is doing through the team as well as the individuals. Personally this has one of my favorite days as a youth pastor. It reminded me of why I do what I do. I got to see the actual fruit of life change. It is rare to see that in one student let alone 7! I am humbled and honored to have baptized Sean Borgstadt, Baabak Nassirian (a student from the other team we are serving with), Michael Gonzales, Randi Gonzales, Kendall Crews, Tim Souza, and Michael Greilich. Below are some pictures of the group getting baptized and as promised we will have a full video for all those who participated in the coming weeks. Please keep the team in prayer for the coming week. Sunday we will be attending church at the director’s church and then having “family time” which we don’t know what that is yet. Monday-Friday of next week it is team ministry like last week. Pray that God continues to give them favor with the neighborhoods and families as well as safety. I cannot thank you enough for allowing this trip to happen. It is because of your prayers, support, and finances that we are here. WSM Costa Rica recognizes that we are only a small part of the actual team that made this happen. Thank you for allowing us to be the frontlines.
