WSM Costa Rica

July.21.2010

Tonight was poverty night for the WSM team, and i thought it would be fitting to have some of the students share their experience from tonight and the last week…

Tonight we reflected on what we have all experienced in these past couple weeks. We talked about all the different definitions of poverty, and how we have seen the people of Costa Rica living it out. We experienced the average meal of a typical family which consists of: 1 scoop of rice, 1 scoop of beans, and 1 hard boiled egg. We are only allowed to eat lunch and dinner, no other food to get the full experience.

Starting on Sunday night, a couple of leaders and students have chosen to share their testimonies. This has allowed the group to begin to become vulnerable, and open up with the trust that we will be able to support each other during hardships and their daily walks with Christ.

On Monday night, we got to experience going into the neighborhoods that we are working with and have dinner with host families. This gave us an insight to what its like living day by day in Costa Rica. We all enjoyed getting to speak and hear the stories the hosts had to share. The meals were also authentic Costa Rican meals, and definitely the best food we’ve had so far.

As we wrap up our trip, its hard to believe we’ve been here for almost 2 weeks, and most have mixed feelings about going home. Everyone has learned a lot, and we all look forward to sharing with friends and family.

With MUCHO AMOR 🙂
